SA 1340 Sculpture Studio: Projects

Environmental art is grounded in interrelationships. These connections include not only physical and biological pathways but also cultural, political and historical aspects of any ecological system. This course focuses on the creation of metaphoric and functional artworks that reveal ecological consideration; these artistic gestures serve to enact change and as connection for the community. Students will be engaged in personal and collective acts and will contribute to improvements in the environment. Opportunities to collaborate with and be informed by scientific experts and community members will create a forum for individual project exploration. The course will include the creation of several artifacts and a final self-directed project. In addition to studio projects students are expected to participate in group critiques and to critically discuss the development and content of their work.
