Position Available - Lecturer - Studio Arts



The Department of Studio Arts in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh announces a Lecturer position (full-time, appointment stream, with a one-year initial contract that is three-year renewable upon review) with primary specialization in Digital Photography, secondary specialization in Drawing.  Eight-month contract over two semesters, teaching three courses per semester plus working with Directed Study students each term. 

Expectations include excellent communication, collaborative and organizational skills, and participation within the community of the department with faculty and students. Share responsibilities managing the digital and drawing studios and in activities surrounding the annual student exhibition; participation in department and university service as necessary.

The Department of Studio Arts places a strong emphasis on integrative art making that relates to all realms of our complex contemporary world. The department currently offers hands-on undergraduate courses in: Visual Thinking, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Installation, Printmaking, and Digital Photography, Imaging, and Video. Qualifications:

  • MFA in Studio Arts with emphasis in Digital Photography
  • Three years of university-level teaching experience in digital photography and drawing is preferred along with an active exhibition and professional record
  • Broad knowledge and experience in practice, history, and aesthetics of lens-based processes as they relate to art and digital technology, as well as experience teaching observational drawing
  • Expansive knowledge of art history, contemporary issues in photography, critical dialogue in the visual arts
