People Are Afraid of the Talent I Have

J Rich Studios and Wick Monet are excited to announce the opening of “People Are Afraid of the Talent I Have,” a month long exhibition showcasing a series of collaborative paintings & sculptures between J Rich & other artists. TQ Live! 10th Anniversary Edition

TQ Live! will celebrate its 10th anniversary on September 13, 2024, marking a decade’s worth of vibrant and inclusive performances that have become a cornerstone of queer expression in Pittsburgh. This year’s milestone event at the Carnegie Museum of Art continues the tradition of showcasing diverse talent from LGBTQIA+ communities both locally and nationally, with a special focus for 2024 on the transportive power of music.

SUPERNATURAL

Sean P. Morrissey and Loring Taoka will open their two-person exhibition, SUPERNATURAL, at Union Hall in Pittsburgh, PA. on 5 September 2024. The exhibition explores how both artists come to terms with identity-making and the markers of the individual within social systems. Their differing visual languages—Morrissey relying on architectural elements, Taoka using geometric patterns—allow both artists to engage with and rearrange everyday imagery to pose questions about the self.

Tracing an Outline Around a Man's Shadow is a group exhibition of works that explore shadows, cast light, color, and negative space. Six artists working across entirely different mediums and thematic concepts come together, playfully casting shadows, capturing darkness, and employing materials that diffuse light in unique cascades and hues.

Physics Artist in Residency Application Open

The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites proposals for Artist-in-Residence projects that respond to Physics and Astronomy research from creative visual arts, literary, film, peformance, music composition, and design perspectives. Creative artist residents are expected to embed themselves in the research lab/group to envision and produce a response that connects to the scientific research. Collaborative applications are welcome. Preference will be given to those who have not previously participated.

The Dilva Lombardi Undergraduate Scholarship Program provides support to outstanding undergraduate Studio Arts majors through the David C. Frederick Honors College. This scholarship for majors may be used toward tuition, study abroad, the Wyoming Field Study, a particular creative project, or general financial need.
